National Minimum Wage Increase April 2019

National Minimum Wage (NMW) has increased as from the 1st April 2019. The NMW sets minimum hourly rates that employers must pay their workers. It covers almost all workers in the UK and is divided into three rates that apply to workers of different ages.

The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills has announced that the new minimum wage rates will be:
  • the adult rate has increase to £8.21 an hour
  • the rate for 24-21 year olds has increased to £7.70 an hour
  • the rate for 18-20 year olds has increased to £6.15 an hour
  • the rate for apprentices has increased to £3.90 an hour
